Stay TogetherTo ensure the children’s safety outside of our campsite, children should not go anywhere alone. The buddy system (in groups of 2+) is recommended for older children going between the beach, play structure, washrooms and change rooms!2. Establish Age-Appropriate BoundariesIt's important that kids know to stay on our campsite unless they have parents permission. Once you arrive at the campsite, establish & point out the boundaries of where your children can play. Younger kids may need to stay within eyesight, while older kids may have more freedom if they understand their boundaries. Older children should be reminded to tell an adult where they plan to go anytime they plan to leave your sight. It’s so easy for young children to wander off. *In case of a missing child, our safety signal will be 3 long whistles so no matter where we are, we can all rally quickly and help search!* Teach children to stay where they are if they get lost, so they don’t wander further away. Tell them to find a nearby tree and stay with it until they are found.3. Be cautious when drivingThe posted speed limit in the park is 20 km/h. Please watch for children, especially when pulling in and out of our campsite. We will have a designated area to park vehicles that is away from the area children will be playing.4. Water Safety As fun as it to play near or in the river, an adult must always be present and actively supervising their children near the water. There is no lifeguard at the Provincial Park Beach. Parents are responsible for their child’s safety near the water. Never leave your child unattended around water, especially young children. Parents should be within arms reach of young children at the beach and older children must be supervised by their parents at all times. You may want to have your young children in life jackets or floaties, just to be safe!5. Campfire SafetyCamp fires can be dangerous with young children running around, so there is a hard rule of no running around the campfire. We’ll be setting up chairs around the campfire and children must be sitting at the fire unless supervised to make smores ;) but absolutely no running around the campfire! 6. Drink Plenty of WaterIt’s HOT this week. Bring lots of bottled water & remind your children to stay hydrated! 7. Be mindful of Poison Ivy etc. Wear socks and shoes in wooded areas. As an added precaution, remind kids to wash their hands frequently to avoid spreading the rash if they have accidentally come in contact with these irritating weeds.8. Don't Eat Anything You Find in the WoodsExplain to your children that items such as berries, mushrooms and nuts they see in the forest aren't for picking and eating. Although they might look similar to those in the grocery store, items found in the woods could be poisonous.9. Keep The Animals Away The best way to keep animals away from the campsite is to make sure it's clean and litter-free. Explain to the children that bears and other wild animals have a very good sense of smell. Even if food is wrapped in a package, bears can still smell it in the tent so keep your food in a cooler in your car. We’ll have garbage bags around the campsite that we’ll get rid of before bed!10. Keep Pets on a LeashEmphasize to kids that the family dog has to stay leashed, because it’s a rule of the park but also so they don’t wander away and get lost!11. Always Bring a FlashlightBring along several flashlights to be used at night!12. First AidWe will have first aid kits on site in case of any injuries :)- - - - We're so looking forward to spending this time together! If you have any questions at all, text Michelle Morgan at 613-220-3640 :)
